On Saturday the 6th October, Wayville Showgrounds played host to Australia’s biggest and best German food and beer festival – Oktoberfest in the Gardens.
Flocking from far and wide, fräuleins and jungen (boys and girls) donned their best gaudi-leathers and lederhosen to celebrate all things German for the evening.
Jubilee Pavilion was transformed into a German wonderland, with the national flag as well as the blue and white Kingdom of Bavaria flag hung proudly on every wall.
A variety of food stalls offered mouth-watering German delicacies ranging from sauerkraut, cheese kranskies and bratwurst, to flammkuchen, frites and candied nuts.
But have no fear, fussy eaters – all your old favourites were available too, including hot chips, hot dogs and doughnuts.
Our ultimate favourite item on the menu had to be the sweet and savoury pretzels from PretzelMania – pictured here are the cookies and cream (right) and salted caramel (left) pretzels ($9).
Two large bars stocked an endless array of beers ranging from light to heavy lager, as well as cider, wine and other alcohol to keep your beer-gut satisfied all evening.
Whilst sitting down to enjoy a drink (or two) in Adelaide’s largest heated beer hall, we were treated to plenty of on-stage entertainment including best dressed and stein-holding competitions, and live music from a mix of German folk bands and contemporary DJs.
For some interactive fun, you could win yourself an oversized teddy bear at the sideshow games, or put on a set of headphones and bop about in the Silent Disco.
Held Australia-wide in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, Oktoberfest in the Gardens is the perfect way to kick off Oktoberfest in spectacular style!

Tickets could be purchased on Moshtix or their website, with limited-time early-bird tickets selling for $29, or regular tickets selling for $39 online or $45 at the door.
